Replicating Human Touch
Easing a Patient with a Simulated Hand on their Back
For this project I was tasked with taking a device born from pure, raw engineering and doing what industrial design does best, turning it into something that’s nice to look at, nice to touch, and generally nice to have around. The device is unique in that it’s mechanism is quite simple but its effects are profound. As troubled patients are rubbed on the back by it, they are genuinely put at ease. It is merely a stand with a padded hand that attaches to chairs and rubs the back of unsettled patients.
